Toluca Lake's Gifted Program on the Rise
Congratulations to the many students who recently qualified for the GATE program. Over 17% of our Toluca Lake Elementary students are identified gifted!!! (The district's goal is 6%.) This percentage includes age eligible first grade students (6 years 9 months old or older) as well as students from grades 2 through 5.

Gifted Science Program at TL
Starting Fall 2011, Gifted and high achieving students will participate in an enrichment gifted program in Toluca Lake Elementary's wonderful Science Lab. Students will perform both group and individual activities and experiments to deepen their understanding of the world around us.

Theatre Teacher (Ms. Jill) creates a new theatre website
featuring many Toluca Lake students

Dear Toluca Lake Parents and Families,
With the New Year upon us, many interesting and exciting happenings are here at Toluca Lake as well. “Angels of our School”, as coordinated by our Parent Director Lucy Gonzalez, is a monthly activity to support the classroom teacher. Our Parents come in the morning to sort, copy and staple papers for the teachers in the Parent Center. A notice informing you of the day and time you are invited to come is sent home in your weekly Parent folder. This month’s event will happen on January 23rd, from 8:00 to 10:00. Come join us and enjoy the wonderful camaraderie of your fellow parents as well. As you know, we have been discussing and emphasizing good attendance here at Toluca Lake. We are proud to announce that 120 students have perfect attendance for the first semester from September through December! We hope that all of you will continue to work with us on getting your child to school everyday so that they can get the best education possible.
On January 20th, we will be having a reward for the students who have earned points in our Accelerated Reader Program. They will be playing for 30 minutes in the Game Coach – a portable game trailer filled with XBOX and Wii game systems. You will be receiving a special invitation if your child has won this opportunity.
On January 27th, we will once again hold our California Standards Test Medal and Trophy Awards Ceremony. The boys and girls are extremely excited about this annual event. You will be receiving further information and an invitation to attend in the upcoming weeks.
REMINDERS
All students should wear their Toluca Lake Tee on Fridays. The students are very excited to show their school spirit. These Tee shirts are also very good to wear when your child is on a school sponsored field trip.
All gates close at 7:50 every morning. Breakfast begins at 7:15. The main entrance on Cahuenga Blvd. is set aside for all students to enter the school. Please do not send your child through the office entrance as they will be requested to go back outside to the main entrance.
VALET program drop-off:
Be sure your child is ready ahead of time. Have their back-pack, lunch ticket and necessary papers prepared. They need to get out of the car immediately so that the next car can move on down the line. Please be thoughtful of your fellow parents.
On all Tuesdays until May 1, 2012, we will have early dismissal for all students. On those Tuesdays, school will be out one hour earlier at 1:09 p.m. The early dismissals will allow us to provide instructional planning time and staff development.

Enrollment application packets will be accepted beginning August 23rd for all new students grades kindergarten through fifth grade. (All kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before December 2, 2011.) A free State Pre-School program is also available. You may pick up an enrollment application packet between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm. At that time, you will be given an appointment time. You must have all the required documents when you turn in your enrollment packet. No incomplete packets will be accepted.

Toluca Lake Elementary: An Arts Prototype SchoolToluca Lake Elementary School provides well-rounded programs aimed at exposing our students to a variety of educational opportunities, and helping them to develop and master their academic skills. Ours is a community of learners.
Located in North Hollywood, adjacent to Toluca Lake, Universal Studios, the NoHo Arts District, and Burbank, Toluca Lake students represent a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and personalities. They are the heartbeat of our school.
